Referee Verification Methods

Written by Ben

RefNow uses optional verification apps such as Yoti and LinkedIn to increase the trust of the candidates and references provided. This process is optional and free to referees, though it may be mandatory for some candidates, this depends on the individual requesting employer. By using these tools, RefNow adds an extra layer of security to prevent fallacious references being provided.

Yoti

  • Yoti is a verification app helps people to prove who they are. You can see it as having your ID on your phone, therefore being a digital ID.

LinkedIn

  • LinkedIn as we all know being a professional network tool, can also be used to verify who you say you are.

We always strongly recommend referees complete the verification step as this increases the trust of the references you have provided to us and you may be asked to complete this later.

FAQs for Candidates, Referees and Employers

  • Is the identity verification process mandatory for referees? No, it is optional and can be disabled by employers.

  • Does the identity verification process incur additional costs? No, it is free for candidates and referees.

  • What should candidates do if they face issues with verification? Candidates should contact RefNow Support and ask for a human agent to discuss why their ID may have failed. If they can't do this or already have done so, they should contact their hiring manager to discuss alternative methods if the standard process fails. If alternative methods are needed, these must be arranged directly with the hiring manager. Employers who do not require identity verification can disable these optional prompts. To do so, navigate to Question Profiles in the RefNow platform, go to Settings, select Verification Settings, and choose the option to Skip identity verification for candidates/referees.
