Step 4: Scan the QR Code
- Open the Google Authenticator app on your phone
- Tap the + button to add a new account
- Select Scan a QR code
- Point your phone's camera at the QR code displayed on screen
Can't scan the code? You can manually enter the secret key shown below the QR code.
Step 5: Enter the Verification Code
- Your authenticator app will now display a 6-digit code for RefNow
- Enter this code in the verification field
- Click Verify & Enable
Step 6: Confirmation
You'll see a success message confirming that 2FA has been enabled. The status will now show as "On".
Important Tips
- Save your backup codes - Some authenticator apps allow you to export or backup your accounts. We recommend doing this in case you lose your phone.
- Don't uninstall the app - If you remove the authenticator app or delete the RefNow entry, you'll need to contact an administrator to reset your 2FA.
- Codes refresh every 30 seconds - If your code doesn't work, wait for it to refresh and try the new one.
Troubleshooting
The code doesn't work
- Make sure you're entering the code quickly before it expires
- Check that your phone's time is set correctly (authenticator apps rely on accurate time)
- Ensure you're scanning the QR code for the correct account
I can't scan the QR code
Use the manual entry option:
- Click "Can't scan? Enter manually"
- Copy the secret key
- In your authenticator app, choose "Enter a setup key"
- Enter "RefNow" as the account name and paste the secret key
